Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, and SNOW !!!

It was a very exciting weekend around the Odom household with strong thunderstorms on Friday, tornado warnings on Saturday, and several inches of snow on Sunday.

Saturday morning, we were awakened to the sound of emergency tornado sirens alerting us that there was a tornado warning for Lee County. There were several tornadoes that passed through the area. One passed to the north of us and did quite a bit of damage to areas along HWY 280 and the other passed to the south of us and destroyed several homes and part of a school in the town of Salem. Fortunately, we suffered no damage from the severe weather. However, the girls spent many minutes in the morning camped out in our bedroom closet telling ghost stories to one another. Most of the bad weather had moved out of the area by 9am.

Sunday morning was a rare occasion for all of us. After listening to newscasts about snow in the area for two days, we awoke to find that the reports were true. Being as far South as it is, Auburn rarely gets snow and the last time Auburn received any significant snowfall was about 8 years ago. We did get a few flurries last year but nothing like today. Thankfully, there were no accumulations or icing on the roads, but the snow in the yard provided a lot of excitement for the girls.

Unfortunately, the weekend was not very fun for little Aubrey. She has run a fever off and on and has had a very bad cough. Amy plans to take her to the doctor if she is not better tomorrow.
